YOUR ASSURANCE OF SALVATION = ETERNAL LIFE
MEMORY VERSE – I John 5: 11 & 12
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this is in His Son.” Vs. 11 (NKJ)
:He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” Vs. 12 (NKJ)
Satan will try to cast doubt on the work that God has done in your heart. Although there will be no audible voice, he’ll put it into your mind, “You don’t think you are saved and that your sins are forgiven by just believing and receiving Christ do you? Surely that isn’t enough.” Satan is a liar!
Because of this doubt, you will need to resort to God’s Word and search out what God says about this. That is important for you to know. He gives us our defense in His Word “The Holy Bible.”
On the basis of the “testimony” of God’s written Word – you can be confident that you have the Lord Jesus Christ, and in Him eternal life. You can overcome this test of your faith. The attack may recur, but you can meet it with God’s Word in your heart. This is His Word in I John 5: 11-12. Read this in God’s Word –“ The Holy Bible.”

Exploring I John 5:11 & 12
In these verses we find out Who gives eternal life – GOD HAS GIVEN US ETERNAL LIFE.
Where is eternal life found? THIS LIFE IS THROUGH HIS SON (JESUS CHRIST).
Who has eternal life? HE WHO HAS THE SON HAS LIFE.
Who does not have eternal life? HE WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE SON OF GOD.
WHAT IS THE TESTIMONY:
John 20:31 says “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
GOD HAS GIVEN US ETERNAL LIFE:
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” This is how God shows us that He loves us. He didn’t wait for us to get “good.”
Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities (sins) have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.” (REFER TO STEPS TO PEACE WITH GOD witnessing track – The separation of sinful man from a holy God with a big gulf between – The cross of Jesus Christ bridges that gulf.)
Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. “ It is a gift and we cannot work for or earn in any way.
I Peter 3:18 says “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” This is how God brings us to Himself. (SEE STEPS TO PEACE WITH GOD witnessing track – what Jesus did on the cross makes the way to God for us.)
John 1:12 says “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” – This is how we received the gift of salvation. It is a free gift.
“HE WHO HAS THE SON HAS LIFE”:
John 5:24 says “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
The result is that we are forgiven of our sins: PRESENT SINS, FUTURE SINS, AND PAST SINS!!!
John 10:27-29 says “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. This is our promise and assurance from God’s Word. You can count on it, and you can never lose it.
II Cor. 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.” THIS IS WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU AS A CHRISTIAN!!
As a new Christian, and a new creation in Christ, you may already have experienced some of the following:
Inner peace New awareness of sin Victory over sin
New love for God Desire to read the Bible Attitude changes
Sense of forgiveness new concern for others
